It’s been a great season for Netflix original shows and movies (if you haven’t binged Black Doves yet, what are you waiting for?) and this week marks the arrival of more great stuff, from the Taron Egerton thriller Carry-Onand the new series No Good Deed. Elton John, who was played by Egerton in the Rocketman biopic (how’s that for a segue?) will also be gracing our screen this week in the new Disney+ documentary, Elton John: Never Too Late. And if you’re up for some early aughts nostalgia, check out Paris & Nicole: The Encore on Peacocka three-episode series that reunites the two most infamous party-girls-turned-reality-stars of that era.

New Movies & Shows To Stream This Weekend: Carry-On, Elton John: Never Too Late, Paris & Nicole: The Encore
It’s been quite a year for TSA agents on screen. First there was great Natasha Rothwell series How To Die Aloneand now, something completely different, Carry-Onwhich stars Taron Egerton as a TSA agent trying to outwit a dangerous passenger on a flight. To change the mood slightly, the new music documentary Elton John: Never Too Late arrives to Disney+ and, per it’s title, proves to be an inspiring look at the title performer’s storied 50+ years in the music business. And on Peacock, Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, BFFs turned enemies turned BFFs again, reunite for Paris & Nicole: The Encorea rehashing of their days on The Simple Life.
While the 2019 biopic Rocketman was a stylized, often surreal version of the story of Elton John’s life, the new documentary Elton John: Never Too Lateprovides a different perspective about the singer-songwriter’s life and career. In it, John reflects on his ascension to fame, his life, and his decision to come out of the closet. The film was co-directed by John’s husband, David Furnish, and R.J. Cutler, the man responsible for the recent Martha documentary on Netflix.
New on Netflix December 13: Carry-On
We’ve already mentioned that Taron Egerton stars in Netflix’s Carry-On as a TSA agent attempting to avert a major disaster after a terrorist blackmails him into allowing a dangerous carry-on bag onto a flight. But what’s even more fun and exciting is the fact that Jason Bateman, a.k.a. Michael Bluth, a.k.a a host of your favorite podcast Smartlesshas a juicy role as the big baddie of the film. The action-packed thriller arrives to Netflix on Friday.
Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton are married with kids these days, but they’re still pretty much the same women they were when they starred in The Simple Life back in 2004. The duo, once known solely for their nepo-baby titles and mug shots, reunite in the new Peacock series Paris & Nicole: The Encore to reminisce about their time on The Simple Lifebut they also have a new mission: they’re going to produce an opera based on their friendship and the catchphrase they coined, “Sanasa.” Despite having no experience in that line of work… but what’s new, right? That was the whole premise of their original show, after all.
