Song Kang & Han So-hee’s Romance K-Drama Is Back 3 Years Later But Not As You Would Expect

Han So-hee and Song Kang’s critically acclaimed Nevertheless K-drama is back three years later but as an entirely different project with different actors. Based on a Korean webtoon of the same name, Nevertheless is one of the best romantic K-dramas of all time and ditches a lot of the genre’s tropes to tell a more grounded, intense love story. Han So-hee plays Na-bi, who has just come out of a toxic relationship and is not ready to fall in love again. Jae-on, Song Kang’s character, is a charming, flirty man who doesn’t seem interested in a real relationship.

The concept of two people who are not ready for a relationship falling in love made Nevertheless a rather fascinating K-drama that stood out from other entries in the genre. While broadcast K-dramas rarely get sequels, it is not uncommon for Korean shows to get international remakes. Nevertheless: The Shapes of Love continues this trend, with the story of Na-bi and Jae-on being reimagined in 2024 for a brand new Japanese series.

Naturally, since Nevertheless: The Shapes of Love is a Japanese remake, the characters have different names compared to the Korean drama. Still, the essence of Na-bi and Jae-on’s story is kept. Ren Kosaka and Miu Hamasaki are both portrayed as characters who either do not want or are not ready to enter a relationship but clearly have feelings for each other. Ryusei Yokohama and Sara Minami have a strong chemistry on screen, which was also one of the best things about the original Nevertheless show.

Nevertheless: The Shapes Of Love Hasn’t Made Many Changes To The Original Show

Considering that Nevertheless: The Shapes of Love has not made big changes to the webtoon’s story so farit is fair to say that those who have seen the K-drama could skip the Japanese remake. However, Nevertheless: The Shapes of Love has a slightly different tone and feel to it that makes it interesting even if you have already watched the K-drama starring Song Kang and Han So-hee. For fans of the 2021 K-drama who might be missing the show, it could be a fun experience to revisit it through different lenses.
