A Man on the Inside Renewed for Season 2

Ted Danson will go on another adventure as A Man on the Inside — the series has been renewed for Season 2, set to premiere in 2025. Sitcom veteran Danson’s latest TV project follows a retired San Francisco professor who goes undercover at an assisted-living facility in order to help a private detective find some missing jewelry.

“We are thrilled to make another season of A Man on the Insidestarring young up-and-comer Ted Danson,” series creator Michael Schur tells Tudum. “From our partners at Netflix and Universal TV to the writers, cast, and crew, it’s a truly exceptional team of talented and lovely people, with one notable exception (young up-and-comer Ted Danson, who’s kind of a nightmare).”

A Man on the Inside is the latest Netflix comedy to hit the most popular English TV list, remaining in the Top 10 for three weeks since its release. It’s Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, earned a Golden Globe nomination for Danson, and was named one of the American Film Institute’s top TV programs of the year.

The series joins a lineup of sitcoms, stand-up specials, and live programming from around the world that answer “yes” to a question posed by Netflix head of comedy Tracey Pakosta: “Will our members love this show and see it as a must-watch?”

But just as important as making viewers happy is ensuring that the project takes on the right format, whether film, series, special, or otherwise. That’s why Netflix’s comedy slate is filled with sitcoms like Nobody Wants This and A Man on the Inside as well as groundbreaking stand-up specials by Dave Chappelle and Ellen DeGeneres. Adam Sandler’s collaborations with Netflix include multiple stand-up specials, live-action movies, and even an animated family hit, Leo. Jamie Foxx stars alongside Cameron Diaz in the action comedy Back in Actionarriving in January, on the heels of making his return to stand-up after two decades with the revealing special What Had Happened Was….

“We’re passionate about all types of comedy at Netflix,” Pakosta says. “This allows us to take bold swings on creators and bet big on talent who want to share new stories with the largest possible audience.”

Stand-up, scripted, and live programs will all be represented on Netflix’s comedy lineup in 2025. After the success of Leanne Morgan’s breakout special I’m Every Womanshe scored a two-special deal and her own scripted comedy series. Emmy winner Ali Wong’s work on Netflix spans every genre — from film (Always Be My Maybe) and series (BEEF) to multiple stand-up specials and now animation (Jentry Chau vs the Underworld).

The 2024 Netflix is a Joke festival presented more than 500 shows by more than 600 artists at dozens of venues across Los Angeles over the course of almost two weeks, selling more than 360,000 tickets. Fans who couldn’t make the shows in person could experience some of them live on Netflix, including John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s In LA (which spawned a live variety talk show that will head to Netflix in 2025) and the much-discussed Roast of Tom Brady.

Also coming soon to Netflix are series by Mindy Kaling (Running Pointstarring Kate Hudson) and Tina Fey (an adaptation of the Alan Alda comedy The Four Seasonsco-starring Steve Carell), as well as a stand-up special by Michelle Buteau (and a new season of Survival of the Thickest), the series finale of Cobra Kaiand Adam Sandler’s return to the golf green in the star-studded film Happy Gilmore 2.

What do these titles all have in common? “A Netflix comedy has an authentic voice and a unique comedic perspective, characters that our members want to invest in,” Pakosta says. In a word — they have heart.
